Premium Denim — what makes it wonderful & why we love it so much
The Design Premium denim jeans have unparalleled style and fit. Here’s why: every pair was created by a true fashion designer — someone who has mastered the nuances in fabric, cut, and shape that make clothing feel and look great on the body. And every element of the design and construction of the jeans—from the materials used to the various cuts and ornamental effects employed — has been imagined and executed with that designer’s uncompromising vision and passion, down to the very last detail. When shopping for premium denim, here are the things we look for at LA Fairchild. Added together, they’re the things that make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary — the things we love about the jeans we sell, and the things we know you’ll love, too. Fit & Style When it comes to both feeling and looking your best, the perfect fit and style make all the difference in the world. Put together, they offer a snug freedom that accentuates your favorite features and coaxes the best out of everything else. When it comes to premium denim, cuts and styles vary from designer to designer—some are better for shorter waists, some are better for more athletic thighs, for example. So a pair of jeans that looks great on one body type might not work well at all for another. Here at Jeanomix, we know the tricks and quirks of all the designers we represent, and we know which ones work best on which body types. Including yours. We’re not just here to sell jeans. We’re here to help you find the perfect pair of jeans for you — jeans that look and feel great. The perfect fit, the perfect style, the perfect pair of jeans. It’s not just our motto, it’s our passion. Materials — Denim All denim starts as a dark rinse. To get different shades and effects (like whiskering, for example) in their denims, manufacturers use different wash processes. Washes used for premium denim are more involved, take more time, and the detergents and treatments used can cost a little more money. For example, more and more manufacturers of premium denim are going green — using only ecologically responsible detergents and sun drying the cloth instead of the harsh chemicals and gas or electric dryers traditionally used in the process. Premium denim is also primarily imported from either Japan (it tends to have a greener hue) or Italy (which is softer to the touch and has a darker blue color). The Details — Hardware High quality metals and intricate designs make the rivets and buttons on premium jeans as much a component of design as of function. Many premium denim-makers also use self-locking zippers, to help avoid the accidental openings low-rise cuts can sometimes be responsible for. Contoured waists One of the distinctive accents we particularly love in premium denim is the contoured waist. Contoured waists lay flat, have less of a tendency to gap, and are more flattering to the shape. Some designers even line them with softer fabrics (like silk) for added comfort and elegance. It’s just one of the little luxurious details you’ll notice and love every time you pull on your favorite pair of premium jeans. Strategic deconstruction Any design deconstruction on a pair of premium jeans — like fraying and tears, for example — is done to accentuate a line and add interest and character. This work is often done by hand, which of course takes longer and is more expensive than machine. But then, of course, it always ends up looking just right. Seams Premium jeans are often reinforced in key areas for better durability and comfort. Belt loops will have double seams, so when you pull your jeans up with them, they’ll be less likely to tear or dislodge. Inseams, hems, and pockets — all the places it matters most — have been stitched to not only look great, but also to look great for a long time. Stretch Premium jean designers almost exclusively mixed denim for women with a stretch element, usually 1% or 2% elastin, polyurethane, or polyester. Jeans with the right amount of stretch in them not only fit better, but retain their fabulous shapes longer — they can be worn several times without washing and won’t sag or droop from the experience. Some companies are even using denim with a new four-way stretch, which provides especially true-to-form fit. |
